New Testament Unconditional Promises

March 29, 2007

Here are 21 New Testament promises that we can hang on to. These are unconditional – that means FREE to us. It is God’s responsibility to assure that they are in place when we need to count on them.

2 Cor. 7:10 Godly sorrow brings repentance that leads to salvation and leaves no regret, but worldly sorrow brings death.

Col. 3:11 Here (in Christ) there is no Greek or Jew, circumcised or uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave or free, but Christ is all, and is in all.

2 Tim. 2:13 … he (Jesus) will remain faithful,

2 Tim. 2:19 … “The Lord knows those who are his,”

Hebrews 13:8 Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.

Rev. 17:14 … he (Jesus) is Lord of lords and King of kings

Rev. 22:3 No longer will there be any curse (in The New Jerusalem).

Rev. 22:5 There will be no more night. They will not need the light of a lamp or the light of the sun, for the Lord God will give them light. And they will reign for ever and ever.

New Testament Proverbs Pt.9 – Man (4)

March 26, 2007

Hebrews 12:4 In your struggle against sin, you have not yet resisted to the point of shedding your blood.

Hebrews 12:11 No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it.

James 1:8 he is a double-minded man, unstable in all he does.

James 1:14-15 but each one is tempted when, by his own evil desire, he is dragged away and enticed. 15Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death.

James 1:26 If anyone considers himself religious and yet does not keep a tight rein on his tongue, he deceives himself and his religion is worthless.

James 2:19 You believe that there is one God. Good! Even the demons believe that–and shudder.

James 3:5-6 Likewise the tongue is a small part of the body, but it makes great boasts. Consider what a great forest is set on fire by a small spark. 6The tongue also is a fire, a world of evil among the parts of the body. It corrupts the whole person, sets the whole course of his life on fire, and is itself set on fire by hell.

James 3:8 but no man can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison.

James 3:16 For where you have envy and selfish ambition, there you find disorder and every evil practice.

James 4:12 There is only one Lawgiver and Judge, the one who is able to save and destroy. But you–who are you to judge your neighbor?

James 4:14-15 Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes. 15Instead, you ought to say, “If it is the Lord’s will, we will live and do this or that.”

1 John 2:9 Anyone who claims to be in the light but hates his brother is still in the darkness.

1 John 2:10 Whoever loves his brother lives in the light, and there is nothing in him to make him stumble.

1 John 2:20 But you have an anointing from the Holy One, and all of you know the truth.

1 John 5:17 All wrongdoing is sin, and there is sin that does not lead to death.

2 John 1:9 Anyone who runs ahead and does not continue in the teaching of Christ does not have God; whoever continues in the teaching has both the Father and the Son.

New Testament Proverbs Pt.8 – Man (3)

March 24, 2007

A continuation of New Testament proverbs that speak to man and man.

Galatians 3:24-26 So the law was put in charge to lead us to Christ that we might be justified by faith. 25Now that faith has come, we are no longer under the supervision of the law. 26You are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus,

1 Tim. 1:8 We know that the law is good if one uses it properly.

1 Tim. 3:1 Here is a trustworthy saying: If anyone sets his heart on being an overseer, he desires a noble task.

1 Tim. 4:4-5 For everything God created is good, and nothing is to be rejected if it is received with thanksgiving, 5because it is consecrated by the word of God and prayer.

2 Tim. 2:5 Similarly, if anyone competes as an athlete, he does not receive the victor’s crown unless he competes according to the rules.

2 Tim. 2:25-26 Those who oppose him he must gently instruct, in the hope that God will grant them repentance leading them to a knowledge of the truth, 26and that they will come to their senses and escape from the trap of the devil, who has taken them captive to do his will.

2 Tim. 3:1 But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days.

2 Tim. 3:13 while evil men and impostors will go from bad to worse, deceiving and being deceived.

2 Tim. 4:3-4 For the time will come when men will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear. 4They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths.

Titus 1:15 To the pure, all things are pure, but to those who are corrupted and do not believe, nothing is pure. In fact, both their minds and consciences are corrupted.

Hebrews 5:13-14 Anyone who lives on milk, being still an infant, is not acquainted with the teaching about righteousness. 14But solid food is for the mature, who by constant use have trained themselves to distinguish good from evil.

Hebrews 6:4-6 It is impossible for those who have once been enlightened, who have tasted the heavenly gift, who have shared in the Holy Spirit, 5who have tasted the goodness of the word of God and the powers of the coming age, 6if they fall away, to be brought back to repentance, because to their loss they are crucifying the Son of God all over again and subjecting him to public disgrace.

Hebrews 10:1 The law is only a shadow of the good things that are coming–not the realities themselves. For this reason it can never, by the same sacrifices repeated endlessly year after year, make perfect those who draw near to worship.

Hebrews 10:31 It is a dreadful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.

Hebrews 11:1 Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.

New Testament Proverbs Pt.6 – Man (1)

March 20, 2007

So, what do New Testament proverbs have to say about us – man? As would be expected, the small quick statements of New Testament proverbs goes right to our heart.

This will be part 1 of a four part series. Man

Matthew 6:22-23 “The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are good, your whole body will be full of light. 23But if your eyes are bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light within you is darkness, how great is that darkness!

Matthew 6:34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.

Matthew 7:7-8 “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. 8For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened.

Matthew 7:11 If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!

Matthew 7:20 Thus, by their fruit you will recognize them.

Matthew 8:22 But Jesus told him, “Follow me, and let the dead bury their own dead.”

Matthew 12:29 “Or again, how can anyone enter a strong man’s house and carry off his possessions unless he first ties up the strong man? Then he can rob his house.

Matthew 15:18-20 But the things that come out of the mouth come from the heart, and these make a man ‘unclean.’ 19For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false testimony, slander. 20These are what make a man ‘unclean’; but eating with unwashed hands does not make him ‘unclean.’ “

Matthew 16:19 I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.”

Matthew 19:5-6 and said, ‘For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh’? 6So they are no longer two, but one. Therefore what God has joined together, let man not separate.”

John 3:20-21 Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that his deeds will be exposed. 21But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what he has done has been done through God.”

New Testament Proverbs Pt.5- Eternal Life

March 17, 2007

As we have stated before, proverbs are easier to find in the Old Testament than the New. After all, they have their own book and it has been titled “Proverbs” for easy reference.

But the New Testament is filled with similar pithy comments. Full of the wisdom of the ages and straight from the breath of God, they jump out at you if you will only look for them.

Here we will look at the ones that speak to Eternal Life. The New Testament proverbs speak to both eternal rewards and eternal punishment.

Matthew 5:20 For I tell you that unless your righteousness surpasses that of the Pharisees and the teachers of the law, you will certainly not enter the kingdom of heaven.

Matthew 7:2 For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.

Matthew 7:14 But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.

Matthew 10:22 All men will hate you because of me, but he who stands firm to the end will be saved.

Matthew 10:28 Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather, be afraid of the One who can destroy both soul and body in hell.

Matthew 12:34-37 You brood of vipers, how can you who are evil say anything good? For out of the overflow of the heart the mouth speaks. 35The good man brings good things out of the good stored up in him, and the evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in him. 36But I tell you that men will have to give account on the day of judgment for every careless word they have spoken. 37For by your words you will be acquitted, and by your words you will be condemned.”

Matthew 13:12 Whoever has will be given more, and he will have an abundance. Whoever does not have, even what he has will be taken from him.

Matthew 16:26 What good will it be for a man if he gains the whole world, yet forfeits his soul? Or what can a man give in exchange for his soul?

Matthew 19:30 But many who are first will be last, and many who are last will be first.

Luke 10:20 However, do not rejoice that the spirits submit to you, but rejoice that your names are written in heaven.”

Luke 17:33 Whoever tries to keep his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life will preserve it.

John 3:36 Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life, but whoever rejects the Son will not see life, for God’s wrath remains on him.”

Acts 14:22 strengthening the disciples and encouraging them to remain true to the faith. “We must go through many hardships to enter the kingdom of God,” they said.

Romans 2:12 All who sin apart from the law will also perish apart from the law, and all who sin under the law will be judged by the law.

Romans 3:23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,

Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

1 Cor. 15:19 If only for this life we have hope in Christ, we are to be pitied more than all men.

2 Cor. 4:3 And even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing.

2 Cor. 5:10 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive what is due him for the things done while in the body, whether good or bad.

1 Tim. 4:8 For physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come.

1 Tim. 5:24-25 The sins of some men are obvious, reaching the place of judgment ahead of them; the sins of others trail behind them. 25In the same way, good deeds are obvious, and even those that are not cannot be hidden.

Philemon 1:21 Confident of your obedience, I write to you, knowing that you will do even more than I ask.

Hebrews 9:27 Just as man is destined to die once, and after that to face judgment,

Rev. 19:9 … ‘Blessed are those who are invited to the wedding supper of the Lamb!’ ” And he added, “These are the true words of God.”

Rev. 20:6 Blessed and holy are those who have part in the first resurrection. The second death has no power over them, but they will be priests of God and of Christ and will reign with him for a thousand years.

Rev. 22:17 The Spirit and the bride say, “Come!” And let him who hears say, “Come!” Whoever is thirsty, let him come; and whoever wishes, let him take the free gift of the water of life.

Jesus is the Only Way Pt.9 – Here Comes the Judge

March 14, 2007

jesusisthekey.jpgNot only is Jesus Christ the only Way to salvation, He is also the judge of all mankind. Oh, you may say “what about all of the other good prophets or religious leaders? Won’t they be up there judging alongside with Jesus?”

The sad answer is no. In fact, when you are standing in judgment and you look around, standing with you will be Mohammed, Krishna, Buddha, Joseph Smith and all of the rest of them. Why will they be there? Because they are mere men just like you and me who also need a savior. See what the Scriptures have to say.

Mark 8:38 If anyone is ashamed of me and my words in this adulterous and sinful generation, the Son of Man will be ashamed of him when he comes in his Father’s glory with the holy angels.”

Luke 9:26 If anyone is ashamed of me and my words, the Son of Man will be ashamed of him when he comes in his glory and in the glory of the Father and of the holy angels.

John 5:22-23 Moreover, the Father judges no one, but has entrusted all judgment to the Son, 23that all may honor the Son just as they honor the Father.

John 5:26-27 For as the Father has life in himself, so he has granted the Son to have life in himself. 27And he has given him authority to judge because he is the Son of Man.

John 17:2 For you granted him authority over all people that he might give eternal life to all those you have given him.

Acts 17:30-31 In the past God overlooked such ignorance, but now he commands all people everywhere to repent. 31For he has set a day when he will judge the world with justice by the man he has appointed. He has given proof of this to all men by raising him from the dead.”

Romans 2:16 This will take place on the day when God will judge men’s secrets through Jesus Christ, as my gospel declares.

2 Tim. 4:1 In the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who will judge the living and the dead, and in view of his appearing and his kingdom, I give you this charge:

1 Peter 3:21-22 … Jesus Christ, 22who has gone into heaven and is at God’s right hand–with angels, authorities and powers in submission to him.

New Testament Proverbs Pt.4 – Witnessing

March 12, 2007

Witnessing? Isn’t that going out and talking to people about Jesus? Yes, but it is also more. Witnessing is who you are, your attitude towards others and the message you bring. Being a witness has privileges, responsibilities and a downside. Share your life with others. Share your hope with others. Share your Jesus with others.

Matthew 4:19 “Come, follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will make you fishers of men.”

Matthew 5:13 “You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled by men.

Matthew 5:16 In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.

Matthew 10:24-25 “A student is not above his teacher, nor a servant above his master. 25It is enough for the student to be like his teacher, and the servant like his master. If the head of the house has been called Beelzebub, how much more the members of his household!

Matthew 13:57 And they took offense at him. But Jesus said to them, “Only in his hometown and in his own house is a prophet without honor.”

John 13:16 I tell you the truth, no servant is greater than his master, nor is a messenger greater than the one who sent him.

John 15:13 Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends.

Acts 4:19-20 But Peter and John replied, “Judge for yourselves whether it is right in God’s sight to obey you rather than God. 20For we cannot help speaking about what we have seen and heard.”

2 Cor. 3:6 He has made us competent as ministers of a new covenant–not of the letter but of the Spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life.

1 John 3:13 Do not be surprised, my brothers, if the world hates you.

Jesus is the Only Way Pt.8 – No Other Alternative!

March 11, 2007

So, if Jesus isn’t the Way, or if He isn’t the only Way, what are the alternatives? Jesus, in the Garden of Gethsemane , praying, sweating, and full of anguish, pleads with the Father. The plea? To find an alternative… if there is any other way. Those who reject Jesus are without hope – there is no other way. This is our message.

John 18:37 … Jesus answered, “You are right in saying I am a king. In fact, for this reason I was born, and for this I came into the world, to testify to the truth. Everyone on the side of truth listens to me.”

Romans 8:8-9 Those controlled by the sinful nature cannot please God.

9You, however, are controlled not by the sinful nature but by the Spirit, if the Spirit of God lives in you. And if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to Christ.

Matthew 26:39 “My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me. Yet not as I will, but as you will.”

Mark 14:36 “Abba, Father,” he said, “everything is possible for you. Take this cup from me. Yet not what I will, but what you will.”

Luke 22:41-42 He withdrew about a stone’s throw beyond them, knelt down and prayed, 42“Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me; yet not my will, but yours be done.”

Galatians 2:21 I do not set aside the grace of God, for if righteousness could be gained through the law, Christ died for nothing!”

Rev. 21:27 Nothing impure will ever enter it, nor will anyone who does what is shameful or deceitful, but only those whose names are written in the Lamb’s book of life.

New Testament Proverbs Pt.3 – About Stewarship

March 9, 2007

Stewardship, a word that makes grown people cringe (hands off my wallet!). But what is stewardship? It is not about money alone. Stewardship is your life. How do you manage you time, your talents and your treasures. There are many wise sayings from the New Testament about Stewardship. In short proverbs like form, New Testament wisdom abounds. Think through each one and reflect on what it says to you. What does it say about you and your time, you and your talents and you and your treasures. The Word clearly directs our paths. We just need to follow.

Matthew 6:21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

Matthew 7:6 “Do not give dogs what is sacred; do not throw your pearls to pigs. If you do, they may trample them under their feet, and then turn and tear you to pieces.

Matthew 10:8 … Freely you have received, freely give.

Matthew 22:21 …Give to Caesar what is Caesar’s, and to God what is God’s.

Luke 12:48 … From everyone who has been given much, much will be demanded; and from the one who has been entrusted with much, much more will be asked.

Luke 16:10-12 “Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much, and whoever is dishonest with very little will also be dishonest with much. 11So if you have not been trustworthy in handling worldly wealth, who will trust you with true riches? 12And if you have not been trustworthy with someone else’s property, who will give you property of your own?

Acts 20:35 … remembering the words the Lord Jesus himself said: ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.'”

1 Tim. 5:8 If anyone does not provide for his relatives, and especially for his immediate family, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.

1 Tim. 6:6-7 But godliness with contentment is great gain. 7For we brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out of it.

1 Tim. 6:10 For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil.

James 2:14-17 What good is it, my brothers, if a man claims to have faith but has no deeds? Can such faith save him? 15Suppose a brother or sister is without clothes and daily food. 16If one of you says to him, “Go, I wish you well; keep warm and well fed,” but does nothing about his physical needs, what good is it? 17In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.
